    Upgrade for my 2015 Juke!

    So this is not the OEM filter for my 2015 Juke NISMO. That is actually the 6607 Fram filter. However the threads and base seal are the same size while this filter is just over twice as long. No clearance issues are there when using this filter and it greatly increases the filter area meaning that the oil will stay cleaner longer and be less likely to bypass. Not to mention the cost is exactly the same for both… Score one for looking things up on the internet!

    This oil filter is perfectly adequate.

    This filter does perfectly fine on my 2021 Honda Accord. I know a lot of people hate on these filters and you can nitpick endlessly but Fram extra guards have always worked. My sister drives for 10,000 miles per oil change and these filters hold up very well even for the construction of the filter. I am a conservative driver but once in a while I like to go on a spirited drive and it handles the performance very well. I care for my cars and I still use these.

    Additional application for trans filter on 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport 2.2 with 4-speed 4EAT trasmission

    Actually works really well as a transmission filter on my 1999 Subie Impreza Outback Sport with the 4 speed auto tranny (4EAT). The factory filter is a special design, and I would not recommend using ANY other oil filter in this instance. However, the Fram Ultra synthetic media flows SO WELL (with so little flow resistance), that you can get away with it. This filter is the exact same gasket and outer diameter as the factory Tokyo Roki Subaru trans filter, but the Fram is longer by about an inch.The Subie filter has a small hole in the metal end cap that restricts the flow of transmission fluid based on the diameter of the hole, but it allows most of the fluid to travel through the filter unrestricted and also unfiltered. The smaller hole creates pressure that forces a small percentage of the trans fluid through the actual factory paper media to be filtered. If I had to guess, it’s MAYBE filtering 5-10% of the fluid that goes through the filter…and even less when hot, because the fluid is thinner and less is diverted through the media as opposed to the hole in the endcap.I’ve been using this Fram Ultra on the transmission for over 1k miles now without issue and I know I’m getting fantastic filtration of the fluid in a way that is otherwise impossible. I’m able to get the gunk really OUT over the course of several drain-and-fills over the next 5k-10k miles. D&F the new fluid in adds detergency and allows the fluid to dissolve varnish and other build-up. But this has to be filtered out or it just recirculates endlessly. This filter allows me to get that junk out without resorting to a full flush. It flows enough so that the tranny works and shifts perfectly even when cold (well cold for Florida; a 45 degree morning).I do NOT consider this a long term solution. Not hardly. But it’s a great way to clean as I drive without having to drop the pan and/or do a complete flush. The gentle detergency of the new fluid (4 quarts, in my case) added for each drain-and-fill works to carry the contaminants to this filter, which I’ll remove in 5k to 10k miles and replace with a new factory filter.It’s a specialized application, but one worth noting. Also, it’s proof that Fram Ultras have some of the best flow rates on the market, in addition to some of the best filtration (beta ratios of around 99.9% at 20 microns). You literally get the best of both worlds.Also, if you’re not using a Fram Ultra for your vehicle’s engine oil, you’re leaving some protection on the table. Why do that when these can be had at Wally world for under $10 and can be used for up to 15k oil change intervals and/or 3 consecutive 5k oil change intervals (which is what I do).

    Only thing I worried about was whether it would fit my truck and it did. I bought in bulk because the price was even better than at Walmart when you figure it out, AND I wont have to worry about whether or not it will be in stock for the next 5 oil changes. The “Grip” on the end is great as you can almost tighten it enough by hand with that AND it comes off easier the next time!

    The grip on the top allows these to be easily removed and installed by hand. JUST don’t over tighten them. That’s a BIG convenience on small cars where there’s not much room to even get to the oil filter. Fram has always been pretty trustworthy to me and I’ll continue to use them.

    New filter for you to try

    I looked at a new review for this filter from FRAM. I liked the features and quality compared to the original “Blue” Honda ones. I am trying these out and for the cost they are very good for me. I change every 5k miles regardless. Going past 5k to say 7k or 10k, I found my oil coming out black and just decided it was 5k for me, with Full synthetic. I change my own oil, so this is cheap insurance. My Ridgeline has 230k on it and runs and tows great. Supposedly FRAM has kicked up the quality from the past and this filter is the “New” better FRAM oil filter. I hand tight my filters, and so the extra grip on end is a nice touch. But I want the 99% efficiency rating, some testing showed Fram Ultra passed.- Advertised: >99% @ 20 um- Actual: 99.96% @ 20 um- Claim: ValidThe Genuine Honda 15400-PLM-A02 Oil (Honeywell) Filter, Blue, is about $12 each, and the FRAM XG7317 is about $9 each.

    Easiest filter on earth to remove by hand.

    I will only use Fram filters because they are the only one you can take off without needing to use a tool. The grippy tops on these are awesome!!! As far as how well they filter oil, you’ll need to ask a smarter person than me. All I know if I change my oil and filter every 5,000 miles on my Honda CRV.

    High quality but hard to remove

    I used this in place of a Honda filter for my previous oil change on an Acura TSX. Drained oil showed no difference in thickness or quality from previous Honda made filters. As a matter for fact, looking inside this filter before installation showed it does contain quality filtration material at least on part with Honda’s.The problem, however, was with one of the filter’s advertised pluses. That claim that it’s easy to remove by hand. Not so. I have a Honda filter wrench for use on Honda filters. However, this filter claims its “SureGrip” makes it easy to remove by hand. Not only wasn’t that possible but it’s larger surface area was too big for the Honda filter wrench to twist if off after hand loosening failed. I had to make a trip to the local auto parts store to pick up a universal filter remover to pry this baby loose. I’d only hand tightened it and applied fresh oil to the seal before installing. It was NOT over tightened.I bought a Mobile One filter, which the Honda filter wrench fits, and will be using these or Honda filters from here out. The Mobile One filter appeared as well made as this while working with OEM tools for removal. Sorry Fram.
